Peacock Strides for Babies: March 12, 2011.
Mauldin, South Carolina
Register to participate, or if you cannot attend, opt to be a spirit runner!
Contributed by co-author Jodi Ware.
Jodi Ware is the founder of Peacock Strides for Babies and the mother of Emily Sandra Ware, who passed away June 20, 2009, at the age of five months. Her cause of death was determined to be Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). She was a healthy, vibrant, happy baby and we miss her greatly. Her red hair was always waving in the wind, earning her the nickname “Emily Peacock.” On March 12, 2011, we will host the 2nd Annual Peacock Strides for Babies, in memory of Emily, and to benefit the CJ Foundation for SIDS.
Funds raised will support SIDS research in the hope that the cause of SIDS deaths can be identified and prevented. Our goal is that this terrible tragedy never happens to another family. The Peacock Strides for Babies is a 5K Run (Timed)/Walk and a 1-mile Family Fun Run held in Mauldin, SC.
SIDS is the leading cause of death of infants one to twelve months of age, killing an average of 2,500 babies a year. A SIDS diagnosis is given when a complete autopsy reveals no distinguishable cause of death. While some research is ongoing, more needs to be done to uncover the mystery of SIDS and save babies. The inaugural Peacock Strides for Babies event raised over $45,000. It is our hope that this years race will surpass the $45,000 mark because babies are still dying from SIDS, so research is still needed.
The website is live – www.cjsids.org/peacock. On the site you can:
· Register to participate in the race (either the 1-mile family fun run or the timed 5K)
· Register as a Spirit Runner (someone who cannot attend the race but will be there in spirit – a shirt will be mailed to you)
· Sign up as a fundraiser
You must sign up for the event by March 1 to be guaranteed a t-shirt and to avoid paying the late fee!
We sincerely appreciate your support. Please pass this information to anyone that might be interested!
